Bahamas National Flag

The national flag of the Bahamas was recognised as the official flag on the 10th of July 1973. This day is the date that independence was gained from the United Kingdom. The black triangle symbolises the Bahamians and their strength. The two aquamarine bands represent the sea surrounding the islands. The yellow between the aquamarine stripes represents the sand, sun and rich land resources found in the Bahamas.

The country of the Bahamas is an archipelago of around 700 islands, with about 30 being inhabited. The Andros Barrier Reef which is the world’s third largest barrier reef and is located off the coast of an island to the west of Nassau called North Andros. The Bahamas are approximately 13,940km2 in size and home to around 401,000 people. Most of the population speaks Bahamian Creole which is and English-based Creole language.
