Ghana National Flag
The national
flag of Ghana is composed of three horizontal bands in the colours of red,
yellow and green from top to bottom. A black five-point star is located in the
centre of the flag. This central black star is known as the “lodestar of
African freedom”. The red line represents the bloodshed in the fight for
independence against the British Empire. The yellow stripe symbolises the
wealth of minerals that the land of Ghana holds. The green stands for the
nation's lush forests. This flag was adopted on the 6th of March
1957. However, between 1964 and 1966, a slight variation was made to the flag.
The central yellow stripe was replaced by a white band.
