Morocco National Flag

Morocco’s flag symbolises several values that are held of high importance in the country of Morocco. The red stands for bravery, valour, strength and hardiness, and also relates to the Alaouite dynasty. The star which has five points symbolises the five pillars of Islam. While the green colour of the star represents the colour of Islam as well as the values of joy, peace, hope, love and wisdom. This flag was first introduced in 1915 and was declared the national flag in 1955, after Morocco gained independence from the Spanish and French.

The country of Morocco is a constitutional monarchy located in the Northwest of Africa. Morocco is approximately 447,000 kilometres squared in size, and within this area lives a population of around 37 million people. There are a few large cities located throughout Morocco, with Rabat being the capital. The official languages spoken in Morocco are Berber dialects, Arabic and French. Moroccans love soccer, and Morocco was the first country in Africa to succeed in making it to the second round of the World Cup. The city of Marrakech has a law in which all buildings must be red, giving the city the nickname ‘the Red City’.
