MOZAMBIQUE NATIONAL FLAG

Mozambique Flag was adopted in 1983.

Mozambique used to be a Portuguese colony for centuries before its independence in 1975, to become the Peoples Republic of Mozambique. A flag design competition, held in 2005 received over 100 entries from which the winning design was chosen for a new flag but later rejected by the parliament.

Amongst the rejected flags was also the current flag, but without the rifles. With independence came the Mozambique Civil War, which lasted to 1992 before peace returned with the help from peacekeeping forces of the United Nations. National Day 25th June.
