TURKIYE NATIONAL FLAG

The national flag of Türkiye features a red background with a white crescent and 5-point star in the centre. This flag was adopted as the national flag by Turkey on the 5th of June, 1936, but had previously been used as the naval flag from 1793. The red background represents the blood of soldiers that lost their lives throughout Turkey’s War of Independence. The star is used to represent the diversity of Türkiye and the crescent moon is associated with the culture and people of Turkey. These symbols are reflected in the bloodshed by the Turkish soldiers. However, the Turkish flag has not remained the same since 1793, with the 5-point star originally consisting of 8-points until 1844.

Türkiye is located in both Europe and Asia bridging the two continents together and is approximately 783,562km2 in area. Within this population only 9% are over 60 years old and the average age is only 31 years old. This means Türkiye has the youngest population in the European Union. The official language of Türkiye is Turkish. The Turkish city of Patara is the birthplace of Santa Claus, with Nicholas, the Greek Bishop of Myra, gifting large sacks of gold to the poor and needy of Patara. Ultimately resulting in the legend of Saint Nicholas. Türkiye produces approximately 75% of the world’s hazelnuts, making it the world’s largest producer of hazelnuts.
