Beneath that is inscribed “Brunei Darussalam”, meaning “Brunei, the abode of peace”.

Brunei is approximately 5,265km² and is home to around 491,900 people, meaning it has the smallest population in the entirety of South-east Asia. Due to Brunei being such an oil-rich country, it is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, which it also passes on to its citizens through a wide range of benefits. The official language of Brunei is Malay, although English and Chinese are also commonly spoken. The capital city of Brunei is Bandar Seri Begawan, which was named after the Sultan’s father in 1970.
