Nicaragua National Flag

 The national flag of Nicaragua is extremely similar to that of the previous United Provinces of Central America, with the blue and white horizontal stripes remaining primarily the same. There are also a few similarities between the coat of arms of Nicaragua and the former United Provinces of Central America. The two blue stripes which are located on either side of the central white stripe are used to represent the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea as well as loyalty and justice. The central white stripe symbolises peace. There are several important components of the coat of arms located in the center of the flag. The coat of arms is enclosed within a triangle representing equality, and on the outside are the words ‘Republica De Nicaragua’, and ‘America Central’ which are used to indicate the country's name and location. Inside the triangle are five volcanoes with an ocean on either side, these volcanoes represent the original five countries within the United Provinces of Central America and the oceans the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea these five nations are located between. The sun and rainbow symbolize the bright future ahead for Nicaragua and the Cap of Liberty represents the freedom of the nation. This flag was adopted as the national flag of Nicaragua on the 27^th of August 1971.

The nation of Nicaragua is approximately 130,370km² in size, making it the largest country in Central America. Honduras is located to the north and Costa Rica to the East. To the eastern side of Nicaragua is the Caribbean Sea and to the west the Pacific Ocean. The city of Managua is the capital of Nicaragua, and the streets in Managua as well as the majority of Nicaragua do not have names. Approximately 6.95 million people live in Nicaragua with most speaking Spanish. Nicaragua is often called the land of lakes and volcanoes as both are prominent within the country. There are four UNESCO World Heritage Sites located within Nicaragua.
